Maya Shapiro / Biography

I started my art career when I was five. From that time, I remember myself always holding a pencil or brush in my hand. When I was nine years old, the first article about my art was published in a children magazine. It was a huge accomplishment for a young girl.

During five years (starting from 1988), I studied fine art, illustration and sculpture in the State Art College in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. It was the time when I became excited by the idea of creating a new painting style which could reflect my vision and character.

In 1995, I immigrated to Israel where I started my way in the graphic design field. I worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising companies, printing houses and Hi-Tech companies.

From 2002 to 2004, I continued my education in the University of Judea and Samaria, Israel. I graduated with honors and was awarded the Diploma of Practical Engineering in Design and Visual Communications.

Being a member of the Art Union of Judea and Samaria from1996 and of the Art Union of Israel from 1998, I participated in personal and group exhibitions:

I have been living in Canada since May 2008. Today my original art works are shown in the three Winnipeg galleries:
